Exercise 1
Read this advertisement for a youth hostel and answer the questions below.
Albergue Juvenil "El Camino"
¿Buscas alojamiento barato en el norte de España? Nuestro albergue está situado en Santiago, a diez minutos del centro a pie. Ofrecemos habitaciones compartidas y también algunas habitaciones individuales para los que prefieren más tranquilidad.
El precio incluye el desayuno y el uso de la cocina, pero no incluye las comidas ni las sábanas, que se pueden alquilar en la recepción. Tenemos wifi gratis en todo el edificio y una sala común con juegos y libros.
Organizamos excursiones a pie por la región los fines de semana. Se recomienda reservar con antelación, sobre todo en verano, cuando el albergue está muy lleno.

Read this message from your Spanish friend, Diego, and answer the questions.
¡Hola!
¿Qué tal todo? Te escribo porque este año ha sido muy diferente para mí. En septiembre empecé un instituto nuevo porque mi familia se mudó a otra ciudad. Al principio no conocía a nadie y me sentía bastante solo, pero poco a poco he hecho amigos, sobre todo en el equipo de baloncesto.
Lo que más me gusta del nuevo instituto es que tiene un club de teatro. Nunca había actuado antes, pero decidí probar y ahora me encanta. El mes que viene vamos a hacer una obra delante de toda la escuela y, aunque estoy un poco nervioso, tengo muchas ganas.
Lo único que echo de menos es a mis antiguos amigos, pero hablamos por internet casi todos los días. Mi madre dice que el cambio ha sido bueno para mí porque ahora soy más independiente.

Lucía, de 16 años, cuenta: «Durante las vacaciones de verano trabajé como voluntaria en un refugio de animales. No me pagaban, pero fue una experiencia increíble. Cada mañana ayudaba a limpiar las jaulas, dar de comer a los perros y pasearlos por el parque.
Lo más difícil fue ver a algunos animales enfermos o abandonados, pero también fue muy gratificante cuando una familia venía a adoptar un perro. Aprendí a ser más responsable y más paciente. En el futuro me gustaría estudiar para ser veterinaria y seguir ayudando a los animales.»

You recently took part in a school trip. Write a message to your Spanish friend in Spanish. You must include:
- where you went and when
- two things you did on the trip
- your opinion of the trip
- what you would like to do on the next trip.
Write 80–90 words in Spanish. [12]
Exercise 5
"Los jóvenes deberían hacer trabajo voluntario." (Young people should do voluntary work.)
Write an article in Spanish giving your views. You should:
- say whether you agree or disagree, and why
- describe any voluntary or helpful work you or your friends have done
- explain one benefit of voluntary work for young people
- say whether you would like to do voluntary work in the future, and why.
Write 130–150 words in Spanish. [18]
