What you'll learn

The ways Christians worship and live out their faith, as specified by AQA.

Worship and sacraments

  • Liturgical, non-liturgical and informal worship; private prayer.
  • Sacraments: baptism and the Eucharist (with denominational differences).

Living the faith

  • Pilgrimage (e.g. Lourdes, Iona) and major festivals (Christmas, Easter).
  • The role of the Church in the local and worldwide community.
  • Mission and evangelism; Christian responses to poverty through charities (e.g. CAFOD, Christian Aid, Tearfund).
  • Reconciliation and the persecuted Church.

Exam tips

  • Link each practice to a belief (e.g. Eucharist recalls the Last Supper).
  • Show awareness of differences between denominations.

Common mistakes

  • Describing practices without explaining their meaning.
  • Assuming all Christians worship the same way.
